Should You Wear Makeup When Getting Your Wedding Gown Alterations?

Makeup Mask To Wear When Fitting A Wedding Dress

I was asked by a Bride-To-Be about whether she should wear makeup when she came in for her Birmingham, Alabama wedding dress alterations fitting.

Getting makeup on a wedding dress can cause problems so I recommend either wearing no makeup or using a makeup mask like the one illustrated in the photo above when you go in for your wedding gown fitting. Keep this in mind when putting on your dress for your wedding dress alterations...for your wedding pictures...or on your wedding day.

There are several varieties of makeup masks out there.  Just search for "makeup mask" and you can find them.  Since I pulled their photo off their web site, here is the link to the one illustrated above.

But anytime you put on your wedding dress (or any other quality garment), don't put on makeup while wearing the dress.  Put your makeup on first and use a makeup mask to protect the dress  while putting it on.

But what if you get makeup on your wedding dress on your wedding day?  Emergency Wedding Dress Cleaning!

Here are some quick fixes -

  • For a polyester wedding gown, mix a small amount of dish washing liquid (like Dawn, but any will work) with a little water.  Gently dab the mixture on the spot, let it work for a few minutes and then rinse using a wet white cotton cloth.  It may take 2 or 3 rinses like this.  And you may need to go another round with the dish washing liquid and then rinse again.  Let it dry.  If you don't have time for it to dry before your ceremony, us a blow dryer or just put a little baby powder on the white dress.
  • For a silk wedding gown, use a small amount of alcohol and apply with a q-tip or a white cotton towel.  Apply it and let it work for a few minutes.  Then blot gently.  The most important thing is to not rub the silk wedding gown.  You must protect the silk.  Let it dry for a few minutes and apply again if necessary.

Another approach is the Janie Stick.  This useful item is made of of a mix of clays and is good at removing or reducing most stains on most fabrics.  Just be gentle when applying it to a silk wedding gown.

But the bottom line is

"Only You Can Prevent Makeup

on Your Wedding Dress!"
