How Long Should I Wait Before I Preserve My Wedding Dress?

When I was asked about how long should a Bride wait to get her wedding gown cleaned and preserved, my answer was simple....

 

Wait until after the wedding!

 

You should plan to get your wedding gown to your wedding gown specialist immediately after the wedding.  In one related article, I said wedding gown preservation begins at the first "peeling" of the gown.  In other words, make arrangements to get your gown to the specialist immediately after your wedding.

But what if you wait a year or two...or five to get your wedding gown cleaned?  Is it too late to save your wedding dress for your daughter?  Absolutely not.  Any reputable wedding gown specialist should be willing to examine the gown and give you a reasonably good idea about the problems with the gown, what might happen when it's cleaned...or not cleaned, and a educated guess about the success you should have after the gown has been cleaned and preserved.  There should be no charge for this help.
