Wedding Gown Silhouettes

Sheath Silhouette
|
When it comes to wedding dresses there is no lack of variety. This doesn't refer to the color, of course, but when it comes to style, fabric, and accessories there are enough options to keep brides busy for years.
|
Luckily, however, when it comes to wedding gown silhouettes, there are only six standard options, leaving you free to decide on all of the other features once you've found your favorite. Every bride has a different body, and it is important to pick the most flattering silhouette in order to accentuate the right curves and keep the bride as beautiful as possible on that special day.
1. A-line Silhouette
Also known as the princess silhouette, an A-line cut is often considered the most flattering. This wedding dress cut refers to a fitted bodice, with a skirt that flares out into the shape of an A. Brides can choose from a wedding gown with a slim A-line for a less prominent silhouette, or a wide A-line for those who want a little more poof.
2. Ball Gown Silhouette
This is a very dramatic silhouette, and is an exaggerated version of an A-line. A fitted bodice accentuates the upper body, while the bottom flares into a super-full skirt. If you want to look like Cinderella on your wedding day, this is the wedding gown for you.
3. Basque Waist Silhouette
This is a flattering silhouette for brides hoping to hide their bellies, as the slimming waist line forms a V to elongate the upper body. The full skirt offers an elegant look while downplaying the hips and drawing the eyes to the torso.
4. Empire Waist Silhouette
This is a very popular wedding dress style, with a high waste that begins just under the bust line. This can be a good silhouette for many types of figures, as the flowing nature of the empire waist design covers tummies and hips on larger girls, while accentuating the waist.
5. Mermaid Silhouette
This is a very form fitting design, perfect for brides who want to show off their curves. It hugs the body tightly down to the knees, before flaring out like a mermaid fin.
6. Sheath Silhouette
This is the most loose fitting of the silhouettes, often falling straight down from the neckline. These wedding gowns are popular for beach weddings and destination weddings as they are loose and comfortable, allowing the bride room to breathe.
Whatever style you select, whatever body type you have, find the wedding gown that fits both your body and your personality. And don't forget to get your dress steamed before your wedding...and cleaned and preserved after your wedding.
