What You're Forgetting When Choosing a Wedding Gown

Choosing a Wedding Dress

Many Brides say that choosing their wedding gown was their favorite part of planning their wedding.  In the midst of crazy appointments, tastings, and meetings, what girl wouldn't relish the opportunity to simply try on beautiful wedding dresses, and see which one looks best?

Most brides are aware of the most basics of choosing a wedding dress: picking a fabric, a cut, a style, and getting alterations.  There are a few things that brides often forget, however, which could act as a disadvantage when choosing a wedding gown.

The Color

Before you roll your eyes because gowns are traditionally white, take note that wedding dresses come in many different shades of white.  The shade of white that is right for you will depend on your skin tone and hair color, so you will want to find the best match in your dress.  You can ask for color swatches at the bridal shop to see which is best for you!

Serviceability

Many brides make the mistake of choosing a wedding dress that cannot be serviced.Wedding dress and sneakers  Wedding gowns cost so much because they are made with high quality fabrics and decorations, but the manufacturers of those gowns may be taking shortcuts during processing.  Choose a dress that has been sewn, rather than glued, in order to be sure it will hold up.  If you pick a dress with beading, make sure the beads are sewn on rather then glued.

Check out the care label as well.  If it says "Spot Clean Only" then the dress is not intended for full cleaning after your wedding (or even before).  And if you're buying a weeding dress on line, be sure to inquire about the care label instructions.  Make sure that your wedding dress can be cleaned.

AccessoriesTrendy wedding shoes

Make sure that you take accessories into consideration when choosing a dress.  Many brides, for example, will use the veil from a relative's wedding service with their own gown, to add a nostalgic element or out of respect.  If this is the case, take the veil with you when trying on wedding dresses.  Other accessories to consider are jewelry, shoes, hair, and the bouquet.

Now that you're fully prepared, go out and find yourself the perfect wedding gown!
