What is Wedding Gown Preservation?

Posted by Sherry Whitehurst on August 21, 2012

The perfect wedding gown is an investment.

Most brides I know think a lot about their wedding gown prior to their wedding. You search for your gown, get fitted for the gown, and dream about finally wearing the gown on your wedding day. Your gown story shouldn't end there, though. Wedding Gown Preservation is the final chapter to ensure your gown holds its beauty into the future.

Wedding Gown Preservation - Is It Right For You?

Posted by David Whitehurst on March 16, 2012

Your wedding day is a moment in time you will remember forever both in your heart and through heirlooms like pictures, your ring and maybe even your bouquet. You can also preserve this day by preserving your wedding gown.

Some brides don't see the point of wedding gown preservation. I want to outline some key reasons why you should go ahead and invest in wedding gown preservation.

The Cost is Not Too Much
Think about the cost of preserving your wedding gown for 30 years from now.  If a gown costs $300 to clean and preserve, that's only $10 a year.  That's not much when you think about the memories that are forever with you through your gown.
Preserve an Heirloom
I talk with many past brides who wish they had done a better job saving their wedding dress because the dress is one of the most important heirlooms from your wedding day. Wedding gown preservation means you can enjoy this heirloom for years to come and share the heirloom with your own children and grandchildren. You may not realize it now, but future generations really do value these family treasures. Think about what having your own grandmother's or mother's dress would mean to you.

Isn't it Romantic?
Some brides like the romanticism of saving their wedding dress. You may want to try it on from time to time, pull it out for a recommitment ceremony or schedule a photo shoot for yourself after the wedding, a growing trend among brides. I've also seen significant anniversary parties (maybe 10, 25 or 40 years) with the preserved dress on a mannequin.  Wedding gown preservation will be the romantic symbol of your wedding day to enjoy forever.

Pass it On
Vintage wedding dresses have tremendous value to your future heirs and other women who will become important to you throughout your life. Wedding gown preservation means you can pass on your beautiful wedding gown for someone else to wear, treasure and pass on. Vintage dresses have extra significance when brides wear gowns from their mothers, grandmothers, aunts and sisters.

You will always remember your wedding day and your memories will never fade. Your wedding gown, though, will fade. Even if you don't know what you plan to do with your wedding gown in the future or see it as an unnecessary cost, you may change your mind later when it's too late. Plan ahead now for wedding gown preservation so you can hang on to this precious heirloom for generations to come.

Posted by David Whitehurst on September 13, 2011

Many Brides say that choosing their wedding gown was their favorite part of planning their wedding.  In the midst of crazy appointments, tastings, and meetings, what girl wouldn't relish the opportunity to simply try on beautiful wedding dresses, and see which one looks best?

Most brides are aware of the most basics of choosing a wedding dress: picking a fabric, a cut, a style, and getting alterations.  There are a few things that brides often forget, however, which could act as a disadvantage when choosing a wedding gown.
