Wedding Gown Pressing and Steaming

If you purchase a new wedding gown, even if is packaged properly, it is likely to need a little steaming or pressing to get it just right for your pictures.  It's possible that the wrinkles will fall out of your wedding gown if allowed to hang for a day or two.  But be careful and hang it properly so you don't stretch the seams on a heavy gown.

If you plan to wear a previously worn wedding gown, such as a vintage gown from your Mom or a consignment or second-hand gown, it is almost guaranteed to need steaming or pressing before your pictures and wedding.

Almost always a wedding gown needs help to get the wrinkles out. Here are a few tips if you want to try and get the wrinkles out of your wedding gown yourself:

  • Hang your wedding gown in a closed bathroom and run some hot water to generate steam.
  • If you have a home steamer, work from underneath the wedding dress and wrap a cotton cloth over the head of the steamer so no water drops on the gown.  Don't touch the steamer to the gown.
  • Never use a hot iron on a delicate wedding dress

If you aren't comfortable doing this yourself, just bring it to us in Birmingham, Alabama.  We'll be glad to help you with this and the best part is...
